Filming Review
                  filming complete

  • set context
  • quick summary of www obi
  • how closely did production follow planning
  • technical (camera, lighting)

We were asked to film an interactive short and we were given a title, our group's being 'The Game'
Our idea for this title was a horror-based gameshow set in a dystopian future. This premise was held entirely as we each wrote our own scripts for our independent interactive paths underpinning this production.
Planning went on for longer than expected due to delayed shooting as their were members of he group unable to come in to shoot. This meant we had much time to rehearse, study and pin down exactly what filming techniques we were to use. We each had storyboards anyway but due to the planning it allowed us time to experiment with different ways to take things during the shoot. This understandably led to our group drifting from the storyboards during the shoot due to the multiple different ways we'd pre-planned filming certain scenes.
During the shoot, we also drifted from the script as we found the environment of a scene felt much more natural when the actor took the essence of what is said in the script but made it his own. This way we still delivered the premise of our production and each scene yet kept a certain amount of purity during filming as nothing was exactly prewritten making the gravitas and nature of each scene much more compelling. Personally, I think this worked well with our production.

Thomas Sharp SEO investigation
How to become more noticeable in Search Engine Results
  • future is mobile
  • build links
  • cross channel marketing
  • https is drawn to referral data

SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines.
-  searchenglineland.com

make sure to include all the key words in titles and text throughout your website to gain more chance of surfers of the web finding your page whilst browsing.
And also more importantly in the links, try to include all the key words because link building and optimisation is a key necessity in the process of making your website more noticeable and easier to find.

Creating link-bait is vital in this process. Think popular youtube videos that famously use click-bait titles, this is much like a website link , use all the keywords someone whose looking for a website that's similar to yours might type in to find said website.
The more links that point to your website the more popular it will be in search results, so share your page and get that link spreading across the web , have it on as many pages as possible so it'll open many doors towards accessing your page and ultimately attain a higher place in the results of the web, gaining a bigger audience. Using this technique your product and web page will sell to more people due to it's wider audience.

key fact
Google+ is the highest correlated social factor for SEO ranking.

It’s marketing, sales, and psychology
combined.

Link Building - a Beginners guide | 2017 | - pageonepower.com

The algorithm used by Google for links is nicknamed 'Penguin' and by building links you will be playing this algorithm as it starts to trust your site by counting the links. However Penguin can detect and demolishes  sites that have manipulative links so make sure you make your link not just relevant (which is 100% key in building it's status and gaining traffic) but also make sure the link can be appreciated by humans so the audience don't find it irrelevant to what they're actually looking for.

Networking is a useful technique when sharing your link across the web as it not only gives your link contexual relevance but builds repertoire amongst the right community drawing in the desired audience, for instance selling a short film , find the good communities in that industry and other aspiring film-makers or people looking for short original content and share your links within that community.

In conclusion, link building is the the most vital aspect of SEO  as 75% of SEO is off-page and only 25% is on page.

The Game  genre

our film would be classified as a phycological horror that could potentially be kindred to recent films such as Get Out, Split or the Netflix series Black Mirror.
All three are significantly similar in the fact they all have a twist in events and involve mind-games from certain characters. The similarity between our film relies in the twist in events and unexpected nature of what could happen next leaving the audience on the edge of their seat.

Our target audience would be 14-18 year olds who like to be challenged by what they're watching. Whilst those in their twenties and later would be more prone to watch film and tv to be challenged than our target audience- as this is a college production this is the more likely audience. Therefore we're looking at targeting the younger viewers in that respect as teenagers do tend to watch this kind of material (with black mirror and get out retrospectively being very popular in that age range).

  • Website is action packed due to constant trailer playing, which could potentially work to make the movie seem like the fast-paced action thriller it's selling itself to be.
  • Tagline - 'LIVES ARE ON THE LINE' seems very similar to many Liam Neeson action flicks which could be so that the audience know what they are going into.

  • interactive menu (very fast paced as videos playing for the background of each section makes it seem very action packed but also hard to focus on as it slightly bewildering.
  • Homepage (basically the trailer playing and link to menu)
  • Story (very basic synopsis - very hard to concentrate on due to constantly moving text auto-scrolling and the fast paced background-tailer playing)
  • Cast with stills of actors and their names with character names underneath_
  • Video section with the final trailer
  • Gallery which seemed to only have two stills before it sent me back to the homepage
  • (very difficult to navigate site , but it works in selling rudimentary basis of what film is about )

    Hyper real sound in cinema

Hyper real sound in cinema is used an exaggerated sound-affect/score or even                             ambience used to empathise what's happening in the film in order to add drama , tension , intrigue or mystery.
For example the use of footsteps or cracking sounds i a horror movie, in horror hyper real sound is integral in the production in order to accomplish the eerie tension required to create a frightening and cinematic horror sequence.
In action movies the same could be said for sounds of cars breaking, explosions and guns firing, think the avengers or a Michael Bay movie, the hyper real se of sound is an important aspect in the fabrication of the on screen conflict to fulfil the action necessary to entertain the popcorn -munching audience.

Take this scene from The Godfather, in this famous use of hyper-real sound - the sound of the train passing works so well in creating that drama that makes this scene in particular stick out as a cinematic great.

GIFS

the lesson spent on gifs was very entertaining. However, I've had quite a bit of experience with making gifs in the past. Even though I wasn't new to the process , it was still fun to spend time excersing my skills and developing them further.

Psycho Shower Scene - with foley sound affects

We were shown the famous shower scene from the Hitchcock classic Pyscho and told to listen to the sound. We were then given a silent copy and told to dub over the clip making our own sound affects. given a microphone to record, and various equipment, we spent time making our own foley sound affects.

                     sound affects
We made various sounds using the equipment that was available.
We were given lettuce which we used to produce a sound replicating the stabbing noises, we did this by stabbing a knife into the lettuce overlapped with sounds made by punching the lettuce.
To create a noise replicating the sounds coming from the shower, to create this running water noise we used rice poured into a bucket slowly overlapped with the sound of a running tap.

adobe illustrator

Adobe illustrator was a new software to me, it was something new to me, however I learnt the basics pretty quickly and masked in a pencil tool over my face. The final product looked ok and could even possibly make decent t-shirt or article of clothing and could even work as potential merchandise.

Maya

personally out of all the software we touched on in this segment of the carousel , this one was the hardest for me to wrap my head around. I struggled to work on the software and understand how it is used, because of such little time given to experiment on it. Nevertheless it was extremely interesting for me to work on a program used to create 3D animation.

Photoshop Editing - learning the basics

O
Our task was to turn a natural image (I chose a droplet of water) and  merge a face into the image.

I tried to make the most abnormal adaptation of the natural image.

overall I found Photoshop fairly easy to use and get used to. possibly because of my previous use with other photo editing software of similar nature
